Just a quick update as summer heats up and the projects keep piling up (in a good way).
Durandal – Trimming the Fat, Keeping the Fire
Still working hard on Durandal. One major focus lately has been revisiting the Travel section of the core book, it was originally over 18,000 words, and while I loved the detail, it was dragging the pace. After several revisions, it’s now down to about 6,000, tighter, cleaner, and much more playable – and much more close to the mythic chivalry themes of The Matter of France. Sometimes less really is more.
Ars Mechanica – Almost There
The Ars Mechanica book is nearly finished. The solo rules and mecha behavior cards are done, and I’m just putting the final touches on the STL files for printable mecha minis. Once those are ready, we’ll be go for launch, expect a late July to early August release. I can’t wait to get this one out into the world. You’ll be able to not only play Ars Mechanica with your friends in a regular ttrpg session of brutal 30 year’s war with mecha, but you can also try a tactical game (very simple, mind – I’m not diving into Battletech granularity territory), and you can play it solo.
Holoverse – Quiet for Now, But Not Forgotten
Work on Holoverse took a short pause, but it’s still very much on the table. Pedro and I will be diving back into it soon. There’s something really special brewing there, and I’m looking forward to sharing more when the time is right.
Mithras’ Final Fantasy TTRPG – A Hidden Gem
Also, and I can’t believe I almost forgot this, fellow RPG designer and interviewer extraordinaire Mithras has shared with me his brilliant take on a pen & paper Final Fantasy RPG. If you’re into classic JRPG mechanics, evocative worlds, and clever design, it’s well worth a look:
